Jewelry holder
October 31, 2013 • DIY
I have seen the inspiration for this jewelry holder all over blog land, and I loved it. So I decided to make my own. Sorry I didn't a picture of a piece of wood that can really be cut into any shape you would like. I wanted my just kinda square, it fit the space I needed it for.
So basically, cover the board with fabric and staple in place from the back. Also if your board has any rough places make sure to sand those down first.
I added a ribbon to the top of mine to kinda break up the fabric look.
I gathered the jewelry that I want to hang here before buying hardware. I went to Lowe's and got cheap knobs and drawer pulls, and gave each corner nail head trim. Mark your holes carefully and start with a small drill bit to not rip and tear the fabric while putting the hardware on.
Hang your jewelry and enjoy!!
Have a great day!

Random Monday-featuring pallet sign
October 28, 2013 • DIY, Pallets, Random Monday
Here is my random Monday post. It is a pallet sign I threw together for our back porch. In the summer I put flowers in the little buckets and in the Winter I drape lights over the pallet for some extra light.
Memo Board Knockoff
October 25, 2013 • crafts, decorating, DIY, knock off
Let me just say, "Hello" my name is Dana and I am addicted to Hobby Lobby, whew I feel better now. I was in the Hobby Lobby the other day for so long I am sure they thought I was casing the place. I was not, but I was looking for inspiration. And here it is, the price tag made it look very ugly though. So, before I sold a kidney to buy it, I did the rational thing. I made my version.
source hobbylobby.com |
Here is my version and yes I know it is not round with the houndstooth frame but, I also know it cost $9 to make and that is what matters most to me.
Start with a basic memo board.
Give the memo board a light coat of paint. Be sure to tape of the wood edge. TIP-If you are using a darker color and a light color use the light color as your base.
After the base coat dried I reached for my handy Frog Tape Chevron Shape, if you want to see my post about that see here.
I applied my tape onto the memo board, I didn't take a picture of this step because the paint color is yellow and the tape is yellow and it was hard to see, but I think you get it.
After your tape is down really good, it is time for the top coat. I used a grey color for mine, right now I am in some grey & yellow mood. Remove tape before the paint dries, if not it will rip your pattern off and destroy the project, just trust me I know.
And now stand back and enjoy at your masterpiece that didn't break the bank.
Happy Friday Ya'll!!

Handmade Spa Party invites
October 23, 2013 • crafts, girl time
My daughter has a birthday coming up very soon, I do not want to reveal her invites for this year but, here is how they looked last year. Her party was going to held at The Great Wolf Lodge, she had 3 friends join her for the night of swimming, pizza, games and all around girl fun.
I had reserved a room that has a room within the room, just for the girls. It had 4 beds and a TV where they just hung out and enjoyed themselves. We checked in on Friday night after school and the girls got bathing suits right on and hit the pool and slides. After some swimming we came back to the room for Pizza, cake and ice cream. Then the girls went to the Arcade where more fun was had.
The next morning I made a breakfast bar for them in the room with cereal, pop tarts and fruits but, once again they wanted to swim. I think a great time was had by all, I know I had fun even though it was a lot of planning, it was fun planning.
Now lets get to the good stuff, I googled Spa Mask Template and came up with my design. I also looked over Pinterest for ideas. Heres what I came up with.
I printed the info on paper and then cut out the mask shape and glued together. I attached some shiny things around the edge to give it that girly look some more. Each mask has ribbons that attached to them that say BFF. Then each mask got the girls initial on it. They were a big hit for setting the tone for the party.
Here is what the fronts and backs looked like.
What will this year party be?? You never can tell but it is always fun to plan.
Party on Ya'll!!

Fall Decor
October 21, 2013 • Chevron, decorating, DIY, Fall, thrifting
I wanted to share with you, my Fall decor and the drink cart it is based on. Recently, I was down in my Dads building, you know where he keeps everything that Dads need, lawn mowers, tools, saws, old things that I have no idea what they are. But on this day, I was looking for a piece of wood, he told me to look in the back of the building and he had a piece.
As I lifted the wood though I saw this baby, a rolling cart. It was dirty and had like 10 pieces of wood on it. When I saw the cart, I forgot about the wood I need, my only thought was to get the cart out of the shed. Here it is now in our kitchen. I decided not to paint it, I learned it was my Grandmas and I loved the character of the scratches and dings.

Decorating is the fun part with everything, I think. So here's a rundown of what got the honor of being placed on my beautiful cart.
Lets start with this lamp that I found at Dollar General for $10, love it.
Next,is my silver Dollar store tray that I gave a coat of chalkboard paint.
The green scale I have had forever, it was bought at a yard sale years ago for cheap. The little green topiary tree was from a friends wedding as a party favor. And the ceramic pumpkin was from my Mother In Law.
On top of the scale is the cutest spider basket that came from the Dollar store.
In the basket are plastic fruits from once again, the Dollar Store and I threw my little box of Lilly cookies in just for fun. These are not to be eaten or else!!
These bowls were my Grandma's also and they mean the world to me. I use them all the time, and think of her and miss her so much.
The basket I also bought at a yard sale for a buck, when the seller told me a buck I was like, OK!!
They hold some of my cookbooks, I have a ton of them.
And that concludes the tour of my Drink Cart/Fall Cart. Hope you enjoyed!!
Happy Fall Ya'll!!
Anthro Knock Off Letter
October 20, 2013 • crafts, decorating, DIY, knock off
These letters are all over blogland, so I knew I had to give an "M" a try. Yes, Anthro has these in stores but, the price is so high I couldn't eat for the next week if I bought one. As a true DIY'er I ran home and started my own knock off.
Go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels and get you one of those cardboard letters. I think they are like $3, then put Mod Podge all over it, then cover the letter in foil, after it dries cover your tops f the foil in more Mod Podge. It is easy and quick and really no one will ever know, that you didn't sell the farm to buy one of these cute letters.

After Mod Podge is dry, paint. I used black and rubbed it off for more of a metal look.
What letter will you be picking up for this project?
Have a blessed Sunday Ya'll!!

Old Frame, New Frame
October 19, 2013 • crafts, decorating, DIY, organization.
For sometime now, I have had this dated, gold frame laying around my craft room. I decided it was time to do something with it. I know you have seen those scatter frames at Hobby Lobby and places like that, they are beyond my budget in every way. I think this one came from a yard sale ages ago, when gold frames where in style in my house.
Pretty bad, right? I went to my ever expanding spray paint collection and fixed this baby right up. I love spray paint, if I could be BFF's with spray paint, I would be a happy woman. If you have your own, way past its prime frame, at your house. Just spray paint it!!
After a spray paint job I roughed it up to give it age. Wait it was old when is started but dated old, I wanted the new old look. Yea!! Then I took some twine and stapled to the back of the frame to hang my pics on.
Sorry for the horrible pictures, I am asking for a new camera for Christmas or my birthday, I really don't care when I get it.
Then I feel in love with chicken wire, I mean I have always loved it, but hadn't worked with it in a while. I made this frame and put chicken wire on it, just once again stapled to the back.
Oh, the clothes pins were from the dollar store, just paint them or put a design on and you have a one of a kind holder.
So head out to some yard sales, checkout the cheap or reduced section at stores for your frame.
Have a great day ya'll!!

How to make a Pumpkin Burlap Door Hanger
October 16, 2013 • crafts, decorating, DIY, Halloween
I know that you have seen these all over Pinterest and craft fairs, but I knew I could make my own, so here goes. It was pretty simple to make.
Burlap Door Hangar Supplies-
You will need burlap about a yard or two depending on what design you plan on making. I made a pumpkin and it didn't take up much.
Paint, I just used what I had on hand. I used brown & orange
Paper for pattern
Glue gun & sticks
Plastic trash bags for stuffing
Small string for hanging
First off,you need to come up with a design, you can look on Pinterest and they have plenty of samples.Once you decide on the design you need to free hand this to paper. I have had this massive roll of paper and really not sure where it came from, but I love it for projects like this.
Once you have cut the pattern out you will need to trace it onto the burlap using chalk because he rubs off easy. NOTE-YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE TWO SIDES-ONE FOR FRONT AND ONE FOR BACK.
Now it is time to paint the burlap. I used a small roller and it went on really nice. You can paint the back side of you pumpkin if you want to.
Then I painted the stem brown.
I laid my pieces together when they were dry and started hot gluing around the edge. BE SURE to leave an opening where the bags will be stuffed in. After stuffed you may close the small hole.
I stenciled on mine and this really was a total after thought but, I like it.
Attach small string to the back for hanging and enjoy.
Happy Fall Ya'll!!
Making Banner Pennants
October 13, 2013 • crafts, decorating, DIY
You know banners are all the rage right now. My daughters birthday is coming in January so, I thought I would make banners for her party. It is going to be on a horse farm and the mood very casual. These would be perfect. Note: Once I make something and I love it, I become obsessed, I mean like staying up all night, looking at pictures of them and dreaming of ways I can have more of my new lovelies in my life. I mean everything looks cute when you put a banner on it. This is just the type person I am, I'm just saying.
So for my very first try of banners I bought a kit that already had them laid out on the fabric. Since this time, I have found my own pattern online and used it to make hundreds, just Google DIY Pennant.
So for my very first try of banners I bought a kit that already had them laid out on the fabric. Since this time, I have found my own pattern online and used it to make hundreds, just Google DIY Pennant.
This is what I started with. The fabric was really already done, all I had to do was cut it out. Easy!! Sorry not sure what the name of this is, I threw the package away. But any craft store carries this or something similar.
I cut the banners out and matched designs to a flow that felt good to me. You can make them double sided if you want, I think it all depends on where this is going to hang.
Sorry, I know I skipped the picture about the letters and string but, really just reverse cut letters out of fabric and stick on. The twine was attached by cutting small slits in the fabric at the top of the banner. I made it pretty long and kinda like how the extra hangs over.
This banner was made to hang in my daughters room. Take a look at this post to see the banners in action.
Then I proceded to walk around my yard finding other places to put the banners. Even this old Impala looks cute.
The gate at the top of our driveway rocks this banner also. I made another one of these that stays there during certain holidays.
Here is a paper banner that hangs in my booth. This was taken before the string was attached but, you get the picture.
So thats it, easy, easy and I know that you can sew them and attach fancy ribbons and all that and trust me I have but, for a fun barn birthday party I think these are just what my Cowgirl needed.
Now go make some banners of your own Ya'll!!
From dress to scarf
October 10, 2013 • DIY, fashion
I wanted to give a try to upcycling an old dress into a scarf. It turned out really cute and was easy to make.
First, find an old dress that you no longer can wear. This dress was a short summer dress and it somehow got a hole right in the seat area. So I knew it would be perfect to cut up without feeling all guilty about. Lay it out and cut strips, I cut cross ways on mine.
Then I took each strip and made little circles out of them. I laid them out to see how long my scarf would be before tying together.
Then I cut small strip of fabric from the dress and tied each circle together.
I like mine to look ragged and totally unplanned.
My scarf is long enough to be wrapped twice or you can leave it long. Whatever strikes your fancy.
Hope you enjoy this upcycled scarf.

How to make a wreath with felt.
October 8, 2013 • crafts, decorating, DIY, wreaths
With all the buzz about wreaths right now, I thought I would share with you a wreath I made out of felt. I used white but, with all the color choices, your options are endless. This project was addictive for me, cause once I started I couldn't stop.
Here's what you will need to make your wreath-
Felt, I think I got 2 yards but, had extra left over. It really depends on how big your wreath is.
Foam wreath, any size you want. Just remember the bigger the wreath the more you have to cut & pin.
Straight pins, and I mean a bunch of them.
After you gather all your supplies together, lay out the felt and find something to trace the circle from. I think I used the bottom of a paint bottle.
After tracing you cut and cut and cut until you have all your circles cut out. Once again, how many you cut depends on how big your wreath is. I used scalloped scissors for my cut because I liked the ruffle look when folded but, you can use regular scissors and it works just the same.
Fold the felt circle in half.
Fold the felt circle in half but long was.
Then take the tip of the fold and pin it into the wreath. I went in rows and really packed them in there. You can or can't do the back, it still depends where it is going to hang. I did the whole thing all over. This is long and tiring but just hold on, the end result will be amazing.
And Voila, isn't it lovely. I attached a little piece of ribbon to the back of mine. I also think burlap would look nice tied up around the top too.
Happy wreath making Ya'll!
Dana
