Motivational Monday-My favorite Quotes!
July 29, 2019 • Lifestyle
Happy Monday Y'all!! I officially go back to work today and it's going to be a tough week. Kids come back to school on August 6th as we are in our first short summer of the new calendar.
Going to work/school is fun, but to help me through it I love me some quotes. I have letter boards around my house and quote magnets on my locker at work and change them around often.
I like the quotes to be short and to the point and I like for them to speak to me directly.
Sometimes quotes make me reflect on my life and I cry or laugh.
I just like them.
So, I put together some of my favorites and I hope you enjoy.
Don't Obey All the Rules
I am currently in a state of repair
I mean come on, it's a Burt qoute.
Not just the NASCAR world changed when Dale Earnhardt died but, the whole world cried. True words from a wise man.
Lately, I get this quote more than ever.
But here I still am just killin it.
Now, this is me.
It's the songs
in my head that makes me blurt out lyrics and it is always a good time.
Music is one of life's greatest gifts.
I asked myself this question for a long time and then I day I jumped and I flew. Self-talk had me in a place of doubt and I knew I deserved better. So, this is one of my favorites.
This is a good one too.
Loving yourself is a road we should all be on.
Take yourself out, get a massage, read a book it is all ok to be totally in love with yourself.
Amen!
Take that first step!
I am blessed to say I do what I love every day.
So, find your favorite quote and put it on your bathroom mirror or in your car or on your coffee mug any place where you will see it.
Stay Positive,
The Charm of Charleston, SC
July 24, 2019 • Travel
Hey, Y'all! We are home from our Bahama Cruise and I promise I am going to be writing all about how wonderful it was very soon, but first I want to take you on a tour thru the streets of Charleston, SC.
Now I am sure you all know how beautiful Charleston is with its cobblestone streets, southern charm and beautiful homes, but really who wouldn't like to see them again(I know I never get tired of it)
We live in a perfect part of NC because we are only a few hours to the mountains or the beaches of both NC & SC. We left out of the Charleston Port for our cruise but we went down a day early just so I could enjoy all the charm of this amazing city.
Is it just me or is everyone else just in love with all the gate courtyards at the homes in Charleston?
I just want to become friends with whoever lives here.
This is a sidewalk/Driveway at a home.
The gate was open and it took all my energy not to stroll down here.
Just like something from a storybook. Minus the cars.
Elegant and charming without really even trying
My favorite! Who am I kidding all the pathways, courtyards and little alleys in Charleston are my favorite.
Like a unicorn, this is a rare photo of me(Dana) taken by my daughters on Rain Bow Row.
It was hot, hot on the day we visited and I just cooled my feet off in the stunning Pineapple Fountain
Sorry, I am still a county girl and barefeet and water are for me.
This is a small apartment attached to a home.
I could live here. Check out the gaslight above the door. Love it!
And this is the Pineapple Fountain.
Kids were playing in it, a few pics ago I had my feet in it, models were doing photo shoots at it.
It is very beautiful and sits right on the Riverfront
Riverfront Park
Wow! Two pics of me in one post(shockers) I am trying on hats in the Market area
Like I said it was very hot this day
US Customs House
Window boxes really add charm and character to a home no matter it is located
I really want to go back to Charleston in the Fall when it is a little cooler and see how mother nature graces Charleston with her presence.
Now, if anyone reading this has a home in Charleston and wants to be my new BFF, I am good with that. Kidding-Not!
I am blessed to live where I live and blessed to able to enjoy other places but I think Charleston tugs at my heartstrings every chance it gets.
Head on down and check it out and discover your own version of Charleston.
Make sure to read my post about the Top 5 restaurants in Charleston HERE
Enjoy the Journey!
Top 5 Restaurants in Charleston that you must try!
July 19, 2019 • Foodie Friday
My love of food runs deep and to have a list of just 5 places to eat in Charleston is a shame but, you gotta start somewhere.
Charleston is full of charm and beauty and is becoming known as a food mecca with award-winning chefs all over the city.
So, if you just have a day or a week go out and explore the city charm and hit up these great places to eat along the way.
Martha Lou's Kitchen-
Martha Lou's Kitchen has been serving soul food in Charleston, SC for this cute pink building. Folks from New York City, The Travel Channel and Martha Stewart herself say it's some good eating.
With fried chicken, fish, pork chops, collards, bread pudding, cornbread, and lima beans on the menu I am certain this is the place to eat
Each lunch or dinner comes with 2 to 3 sides

Master Bedroom Closet Inspiration
July 17, 2019 • Lifestyle
Back sometime last year our home was found to have a mold and moisture issue in the crawlspace and master closet. Just the word mold made me cringe, as it does anyone.
This news set off a series of events that included me crying like a baby(i got it together), we had to move out of our house for a few days, everything in my master bedroom closet had to be thrown away, we found two of the showers were leaking and our AC drain pipes were not draining(GREAT)

I kept 2 white work shirts of Sonny's and that was all I could keep out of the closet. The crawlspace was encapsulated and wrapped(more on that big fun another time)and it is the most beautiful, clean and dry space you have ever seen.
I laugh now that we spent that kind of money in the crawlspace and can't even entertain guest down there.
We got all new ductwork and drain lines were moved to prevent this water issue from happening in the future.
Now our house smells clean and fresh and that musty odor is gone. My closet was stripped down and put back together, well somewhat. All the shelves that were in the closet came out and went to the trash and this left me with an empty closet to do with as I wish.
Today, I am going to share some inspiration & tips that I am looking at for my new space. I don't have a massive closet but it is a nice walk-in closet. The door has been taken off because the space between the floor and the carpet were not enough to allow for airflow. I like it with the door off though. I plan on putting little lights in my closet so I think the glow into the bedroom will be nice.
This is just a simple closet design from Home Depot good for a smaller closet or maybe the kid's bedroom
This the Pax Wardrobe from Ikea and it gets a little more detailed. I love the drawers and the places for some baskets for all that other stuff that our closets hold.
Add this beautiful chandelier for the perfect touch to make your closet all girly.
And no closet is complete without a mirror to check out your look. I am leaning(get it) towards this mirror from Wayfair because it is kind of distressed looking.
Look at those legs...on this gorgeous ottoman from West Elm. Years ago no one would have thought to put an ottoman in the closet, but today it is just second nature giving you a place to take off your shoes and it's a cutie too.(win win)
I love this adorable Lattice Round Hamper from Wayfair. You could have several hampers for dry cleaning clothes, donations, etc.
Add some diffusers to your closet space to keep it smelling fresh and clean.
That is my inspiration for my closet makeover. I am going to add a rug to the floor and some artwork and it will be done.
Have you recently given your closet a makeover?
Please share pictures in the comments.
Motivational Monday-Shaking the End of Summer Blues!
July 15, 2019 • Lifestyle
Well technically summer is not over until September, but our version of summer vacation is coming like a fast-moving train. See, I only work during the school year and I am off in the summer.
It is a beautiful thing. This is our first summer ever that the calendar changed and kids come back Aug 6th
I went to work in the Middle School Cafeteria when my son was in 7th grade and he is now 20 years old(insert sad Momma face here)
I never knew that I would fall in love with my job the way I did.
But here I am all these years later loving every day and still enjoying my summers off.
CBS News did a story on the Summer Blues here.
Yes, that feeling you get is a real thing and everyone goes through it on one level or another.

Here are some tips to help you deal with what I call
"Autumn Anxiety"
Go Outside-
I learned this one a few years ago and really started enjoying the cooler air and the way mother nature slowly starts to change herself

Sleep-
After all those summer days of up early and to bed late your body needs rest. Give your body what it needs.

Take it Easy on Yourself-
you are only one person and you don't have to do it all. Just do what you can and that will be enough.
Go back and check out this post I did here on Creating a nighttime routine for a better nights sleep.
Schedule a road trip-
the excitement of going away sometimes can set your mood right in place.
As the time to get up early, pack lunches, have a schedule and routine again approach at least you can be a little better prepared in advance of the chaos.
We all struggle those first few weeks, so take it easy on yourself, the kids, the teachers and really everyone because we are all in this back to school thing together.
My favorite part of back to school is shopping for supplies.
What is your favorite part?
